Hello guys,
I would like to tell you what my current OP team consists of when playing the "sealed" 10 booster and bring your own 4 characters OP events. This is how the 2014 National Qualifiers is being run, and this is the team I would take if I were able to go to one. I will also explain my strategy.
Basics:
Teleport
Invulnerability
Team:
Hawkeye - Longbow
Green Goblin - Goblin Lord ("GL")
Human Torch - Johnny Storm
Phoenix - Redd
Team Strategy
Johnny Storm and Longbow are the "bread and butter" of this team most of the time. They allow you to ping you opponents characters and longbow will swing in for damage. This usually depends on if my opponent buys a Gobby early or not. If they do I will buy the Johnny Storm , and if they don't I usually go with something else like Longbow to start pushing damage.
I used Goblin Lord as a finisher after I have established 4-5 sidekicks on the board.
One of the main reasons I run Redd is to use her global. Forcing opposing characters to attack and just take the damage so their dice get recycled and they have a less chance of fielding them again is one of the essential keys to my strategy. While doing this you have to pay attention to how much damage you are taking, what your opponent is buying, what they have already rolled and what should be in their bag to draw next turn. This is key so you know you will not lose no matter what your opponent rolls.
Sometimes Redd's global gets used against you, but you should be the one using more often then your opponent.
Another key thing I like to do is when my opponent is running a Rally, if I go first, I always chose the rally hoping they take it also. Then I will take the last one and start building my team. Depending on what they buy next always depends on what I would buy. If they go for another basic die, I would buy my johnny storm to get him set up quick to start pinging. But if they buy a character with 4 or less health I will try and get my Longbow's going to push damage through. Then I will focus on buying a Goblin Lord to set up for the finish as I stated above.
I rarely ever buy Invulnerability. Its global is typically used as a game finisher when I don't have enough points of damage on board. Which is exactly why I run it.
I haven't used Teleport yet but I figure it could be a good combo with Longbow / Goblin lord. Longbow would come in and KO a character then swap him out for "GL" for a finishing move. It's also a good combo with Johnny Storm to move him on board then move any other characters you rolled that turn.
Booster Pulls
Finally I would like to address some cards I would be looking for to go with my team. I typically am only looking for globals or 2 cost dice in this instance, since I usually only end up buying my starting characters.
So one of the first cards I would hope to pull would be a Mr. Fantastic. As I stated before, making an opposing character attack is a key essential to my strategy and this gives me another energy type to use.
Second is another card I would hope to pull is Mjolnir. It's global effect fits right in with my team being all bolt characters to start with.
Third would something else to look for is Silver Surfer. He creates an advantage at only the cost of two life.
And lastly I would look for a Venom, since I wouldn't be fielding any fist characters this global has absolutely no penalties against me and can only potentially help me against Tsarina and other fist character decks.
If I didn't pull any of these dice I would chose the lowest cost dice possible hoping for a 2 cost like black widow or something for when energy rolls don't go my way.
